چکیده

Background and objectives: The molecular mechanism of hypotension post spinal anesthesia is unknown. This study hypothesized that the sympathectomy from spinal anesthesia would cause an increase in nitric oxide (NO) levels. Methods: 36 ASA 1 or 2 patients undergoing extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy were prospectively enrolled. Plasma levels of NO reaction products were measured pre and post spinal anesthesia. Results: The mean NO metabolite level significantly decreased (15.9 +/10 vs. 13.9 +/8.7 μM, P < 0.0001) after spinal anesthesia. There was no correlation between NO and MAP. Conclusions: Contrary to our hypothesis, plasma NO levels significantly decreased after the administration of intrathecal lidocaine. Vasodilatation produced by intrathecal lidocaine does not appear to be mediated by NO.

Comparison of effects of 5% Lidocaine and 5% Meperidine plus 5% Lidocaine on complications and duration of postoperative analgesia for cesarean section

Introduction: Nowadays, spinal anesthesia is associated with few complications in many surgical practices especially the elective caesarean which is taken as a suitable replacement for general anesthesia. Different drugs are used for spinal anesthesia. This study aims to compare lidocaine 5% in combination with meperidine 5% plus lidocaine 5% for spinal anesthesia in non-emergency cesarean pati...

The effects of lidocaine on nitric oxide production from an activated murine macrophage cell line.

UNLABELLED Nitric oxide (NO), overproduced by activated macrophages, is important in the pathogenesis of various diseases, including septic shock and inflammatory tissue injury, as well as antibacterial host defense mechanisms. We examined the effects of lidocaine on NO production and the expression of inducible NO synthase (iNOS) protein and messenger RNA (mRNA) in activated macrophages. Murin...

Comparing Different Epinephrine Concentrations for Spinal Anesthesia in Cesarean Section: A Double-Blind Randomized Clinical Trial

Background: Although various anesthetic techniques can be used in different kinds of surgeries, spinal anesthesia has received considerable attention for the lower abdomen and lower extremities surgeries and cesarean section. This study aimed at comparing the effect of adding epinephrine 1:1000 and 1:10000 to lidocaine and fentanyl in spinal anesthesia on the prolongation of paralysis, analgesi...

Effect of oral tizanidine on prolongation of intrathecal lidocaine

Objective: In order to prolong the duration of intrathecal lidocaine, various drugs are used along with it. Due to the promising effects of tizanidine on central nervous system, it can be assumed that tizanidine can have a positive effect on increasing the anesthesia duration too. Thus, we aimed to investigate the effect of oral tizanidine on the duration of lidocaine spinal anesthesia.Me...

Comparison of Duration of Spinal Anesthesia with Lidocaine or Lidocaine Plus Epinephrine between Addicts and Non-addicts

Background: Duration of spinal anesthesia depends on the type of anesthetic agent, dosage and additive materials such as epinephrine, ephedrine and opioid. We compared the duration of spinal anesthesia with lidocaine 5% with or without epinephrine in addict and non-addict patients undergoing inferior limb fracture surgery. Methods: This single blinded randomized clinical trial was performed on ...
